Memories
Whatever the era, the greatest opportunity is to be with our loved ones. We cherish these moments by being with them. During this difficult period (pandemic), we got even closer with some people and unfortunately had to say goodbye to others. I said goodbye to my grandparents. The brooch “Memories” is very personal, but the viewers can also find their own stories in it.
DNA
Calling myself an artist, I always wondered where that came from? Is it my nature, my vocation, or is it earned by hard work? Of course, all these factors influence who I am now. Nor can I deny my roots. I knew my grandfather was gifted at drawing. My mother always had the same "good hand" for drawing. So, if there is any talent in me, I understand where it came from: along with my DNA.
In Memoriam II
The In Memoriam II is a personal and sentimental piece that consists of two parts - a used cartridge case and a portrait of my grandfather. As a child, I found this photograph of my grandfather with the inscription “You may forget me, but I will not forget you” in my grandmother’s closet. Now, I have given it meaning in a frame made in the stained glass technique, which connects to the socket found when digging a hole for my grandfather’s remains. The beginning and the end of life come together in a brooch. And for me, it will always be a memory of the love message kept in my grandmother’s cupboard.
In Memoriam
The brooch “In Memoriam” consists of two parts. The first part is a photo framed by stained glass technique. Here, my grandmother is eternalized in her youth with her children, including my mother. The second part is a stone found in the mountains. This stone symbolizes eternity. Attached to the photograph and the stone by knots is a pearl necklace that symbolizes my ongoing relationship, connection and attachment to my grandmother. This brooch is dedicated to the memory of my grandmother who left this world on August 19, 2021.
